Vaccinations for Puppies
-
Vaccination for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenze
(DHPP) given 3-4 weeks apart through sixteen weeks of age. The first
set may be given as early as 6-8 weeks of age. Typically puppies get
two to four of these vaccines during their puppy hood. This vaccine is
required for surgery, puppy class, all boarding facilities and will
need to be boostered annually.
-
Rabies vaccine after twelve weeks of age, many times on the last puppy
visit. This vaccine is required by state law and is good for one year.
Subsequent vaccinations are given every two years.
-
Lyme disease vaccination given as early as nine weeks of age, with a
booster in 2-3 weeks. This is highly recommended for dogs likely to
encounter deer ticks. It is boostered annually.
-
Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccine given to dogs that are boarded, attend
puppy class, participate in dog shows, are regularly groomed or hunt with
other dogs. The intranasal vaccine protects for six months and can be given
as early as four weeks of age. The injectable vaccine protects for twelve
months and can be given at eight weeks of age. It needs to be boostered
2-4 weeks later.
