Dermatology & Allergy Testing
To help assess your pet’s pain and discomfort as quickly as possible, we take diagnostic steps right away. First, we will examine the skin and area of infection. If a visual examination does not provide enough insight, we may recommend diagnostic testing like blood samples, biopsies, skin scrapings, and cultures. These tests will accurately and efficiently be analyzed in our diagnostic laboratory.
Like humans, pets can have reactions to substances they eat, breathe, and touch. In veterinary medicine, the tricky part is pinpointing what exactly a pet is reacting to, which oftentimes is more than one allergen.
Treatments vary depending what your pet is reacting to. Treatments may involve a change in diet, topical creams, medications, or a combination of treatment methods.
Allergies and dermatological issues can cause a great deal of physical discomfort, and can even begin to effect a pet’s mental state if left untreated. Alert us if you notice any of the following signs in your pet:
- Excessive scratching
- Constant licking and biting
- Scabby, red or flaky skin
- Lumps or bumps
- Hot spots
- Excessive shedding
- Vomiting or diarrhea
